History and examination - note general fitness and peripheral pulses. Particularly important are the femoral pulses if the femoral artery is to be used for entry. Bruits must be listened for. It is also important to check dentition.

A panel of routine investigations permit full interpretation of angiographic data:

  • ECG, FBC,
  • CXR
  • full blood count, U+Es
  • clotting screen
  • fasting glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol
  • group and save blood
