cryptococcosis

Infection with Cryptococcus neoformans is most common in the immunosuppressed:
- the elderly
- AIDS
- patients receiving chemotherapy
- Hodgkin's disease
It may result in meningitis, pulmonary, or gastrointestinal involvement.
Investigations:
- microscopy (Indian ink dye)
- culture of biopsies or CSF
- complement fixation test
Management:
- amphotericin plus 5-flucytosine
