clinical features

The clinical features of gallbladder carcinoma include:

  • right upper quadrant pain: similar to previous episodes of biliary colic, but more persistent
  • acute cholecystitis: where the tumour blocks the cystic duct
  • obstructive jaundice: in over 50% of cases
  • palpable mass in right upper quadrant

Less commonly there is cholangitis due to secondary involvement of the common duct. Up to 80% of patients also have gallstones.
