Possible causes of vomiting in infancy include:

  • infection - including tonsillitis, otitis media, pneumonia, meningitis and urinary tract infection
  • gastrointestinal tract obstructions, which may occassionally present after the early neonatal period, especially volvulus associated with gut malrotation
  • gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • cow's milk intolerence
  • rumination
  • infantile pyloric stenosis
  • pylorospasm
  • gastroenteritis
  • malabsorption
  • intestinal obstruction
  • incarcerated or strangulated hernias
  • poisons or drugs
  • raised intracranial pressure or brain tumour
