Therapeutic indications for an OGD include:
- sclerosis of oesophageal varices
- diathermy of bleeding ulcers
- dilation of benign strictures
- intubation if there is an obstructing growth
- laser treatment:
- palliation of oesophageal carcinoma
- treatment of upper GI bleeding from vascular anomalies or angiodysplasia
