Growth hormone releasing hormone is released by the hypothalamus into the portal hypophyseal blood to act on the anterior pituitary and cause the release of growth hormone.
The actual control of growth hormone release is more under the negative feedback control of somatostatin, also released by the hypothalamus; GRH tends to exert a tonic control over the anterior pituitary.
