- various criteria for the histological diagnosis of mycosis fungoides have been proposed - the most consistent diagnostic features are the presence of epidermotropism with atypical lymphocytes (typically having a 'cerebriform' or notched nucleus) invading the epidermis and collections of atypical lymphocytes (Pautrier microabscesses) in the absence of significant spongiosis (1)
