improving efficacy

Last reviewed 01/2018

Chemotherapeutic drug efficacy can be improved by:

  • alternating non-cross resistant regimens
  • high dose therapy with rescue of normal tissues - eg autologous bone marrow transplant
  • optimum dose intensity - seen in retrospective data
  • improved scheduling - e.g. etoposide in small cell lung cancer
  • reduction in myelotoxicity - colony stimulating factors, stem cell infusions
