antiemetics in pregnancy

Last reviewed 01/2018

There are no known adverse reactions to the antiemetic preparations that are in common use e.g. Avomine.

However a 1980 court decision in the United States did accept the possibility of Debendox, at the time the most widely used antiemetic in pregnancy, being a rare cause of foetal abnormality.

It should be borne in mind that the metabolic disturbance of frequent vomiting may be a more likely cause of foetal abnormality than the use of any of the accepted antiemetics.
